Display of 'Missile' in Front of Former U.S. Embassy on November 4

On the anniversary of the U.S. embassy takeover in Tehran, during a state rally commemorating this day, a sample of the 'Qadr' ballistic missile, which has a range of 2,000 kilometers, was displayed in front of the former U.S. embassy building in Tehran. Some Iranian media described the displayed missile as a ballistic missile, while ISNA reported it as a 'model' of this type of missile. Tasnim News Agency reported on Saturday (November 4) that this missile was showcased simultaneously with November 4, which is recognized in Iran as Student Day and 'National Day of Struggle Against Global Arrogance.' The missile was displayed amid repeated criticisms from the U.S. and other Western countries regarding Iran's missile industry development. While Washington claims that Tehran is violating the 'spirit' of the JCPOA with its missile tests, and European countries have opposed these tests, Iranian officials state that they will not only continue these tests but also expand their missile industry. The commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated on November 9 that according to the policies described by the Supreme Leader, the range of Iran's missiles has been limited to 2,000 kilometers. In response to this news, U.S. State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert stated that this range is also 'too much' and puts U.S. allies within its reach. Another report indicated that Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, also stated during the special November 4 ceremony that 'the Iranian nation holds the record for humiliating American conspiracies.' Tasnim News Agency also reported that Shamkhani claimed that this year's ceremony was 'different' from previous years because it was 'a scene of protest against Trump's policies against the Iranian people.' The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council added that 'the request for dialogue from the President of the United States stems from their despair and inability.' Shamkhani's reference was to the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson's statement rejecting Donald Trump's request for a meeting with Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Although the White House spokesperson denied Tehran's claim, the Washington Post reported that the U.S. government had sought French President Macron's mediation for a meeting between Trump and Rouhani in September. According to ISNA, during this year's November 4 rally in front of the former U.S. embassy, demonstrators carried a 'coffin of negotiations with the U.S.' and distributed leaflets among the present students warning them about the dangers of prolonged use of music devices like headphones and the risk of hearing loss. A group of leftist students known as 'followers of Imam's line' attacked the U.S. embassy building in Tehran on November 4, 1979, taking 52 of its staff hostage. The pretext for this action was the U.S.'s refusal to hand over the Shah for trial in Iran. The U.S. embassy staff were held captive for 444 days, and since then, diplomatic relations between Iran and the U.S. have been severed. Jimmy Carter, the then U.S. President, retaliated by first issuing Executive Order 4702 on November 12, 1979, banning Iranian oil products from entering the U.S., and two days later, he issued Executive Order 12170, which ordered the seizure of all Iranian assets in the U.S. and in American financial institutions in Europe. However, officials of the Islamic Republic and some of the students involved in this action still defend it, considering it appropriate for the circumstances of the time.
