Documentary 'The Execution of the Minister' Produced by Voice of America Among the Winners of the Claryon Awards

The documentary 'The Execution of the Minister' won the television documentary category at the 50th Claryon Awards, held annually by the 'Women in Communications Association'. Directed by Hassan Sarbakhshian and produced by the Persian section of Voice of America, the documentary narrates the life and tragic fate of Ms. Farrokhroo Parsa, the first female minister in Iran, which was first broadcast on the anniversary of her execution in Ordibehesht 1402 in the Iranian calendar. This 60-minute documentary is also among the finalists in the historical documentary category at the 19th International Television Broadcasting Awards, competing alongside four other nominees from Radio New Zealand, BBC Television, and two documentaries from the UK and Canada. The ceremony to announce the final winners of this award will be held on 19 Aban 1402 in London. The International Television Broadcasting Association was established thirty years ago, and in its 19th edition, 400 hours of programming produced by eighty companies from 23 countries will compete in television, radio, and digital categories. Farrokhroo Parsa was the first female minister in Iran, serving as the Minister of Education from 1970 to 1975 in the second and third governments of Amir Abbas Hoveyda, the then Prime Minister. However, on 16 Ordibehesht 1359, coinciding with Women's Day, which is named after the birth of 'the daughter of the Muslim prophet', the newspaper Ettela'at reported the issuance of a death sentence for Farrokhroo Parsa. Two days later, when Ettela'at confirmed the execution of the death sentence, the newspaper Kayhan also reported on the execution by firing squad of Ms. Parsa.
