Donald Trump and Kamala Harris Agree on Debate Scheduled for September 11

Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party nominee for the U.S. presidential election, and Donald Trump, her Republican rival, have agreed to a debate on September 11 on ABC television. This debate was planned long before Joe Biden withdrew from the race, and last week, Donald Trump expressed doubts about participating. However, on Thursday, August 9, during a press conference at his residence in Florida, Mr. Trump confirmed the debate would take place at the scheduled time and network, and he also expressed willingness to participate in two additional debates with his opponent on Fox News (on September 4) and NBC (on October 25). Ms. Harris also wrote on social media platform X after a campaign rally in Detroit, Michigan, that Donald Trump has 'finally committed' to the debate. Last week, Donald Trump had stated that with Joe Biden's withdrawal from the race, he was not willing to participate in the September 11 debate on ABC and preferred to have his first debate with Kamala Harris on September 4 on Fox News. Meanwhile, results from an Ipsos poll released on Thursday indicate that Kamala Harris's lead over Donald Trump has slightly increased. According to this new poll, Ms. Harris leads with 42% of the votes compared to Mr. Trump's 37%; in a joint poll released about ten days ago by Reuters and Ipsos, Kamala Harris had 37% and Donald Trump had 34%. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for November 6. Donald Trump is officially participating in this race as the Republican Party nominee; Democratic Party representatives have also voted online for Kamala Harris's nomination, but her official nomination will be announced in about ten days at the party's national convention.
