Donald Trump Introduces JD Vance as Vice Presidential Candidate

Donald Trump announced Senator JD Vance as his choice for Vice President in a post on the social media platform 'Truth.' Mr. Trump highlighted the young Republican's military background, legal education, and success in entrepreneurship and business, stating that he will 'be intensely focused on the people he has fought brilliantly for, American workers and farmers.' JD Vance is an investor in startup companies and the author of a bestselling book, who defeated his Democratic opponent Tim Ryan in the 2022 midterm Senate elections in Ohio, taking the seat of retiring Republican Senator Rob Portman. Vance was born in Middletown, Ohio, and spent much of his childhood with his grandmother after his father left the family at a young age and his mother struggled with drug addiction. He served as a Marine in the Iraq War. Afterward, he earned a bachelor's degree in political science and philosophy from Ohio State University and then attended Yale Law School, where he received his law degree. In 2016, Vance wrote 'Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and a Culture in Crisis,' which became a New York Times bestseller. A film based on this book was made with the same name, directed by Ron Howard and starring Amy Adams, Glenn Close, and Gabriel Basso. Vance married Usha Vance in 2014, and they have three children together. Trump has previously referred to him as a 'warrior.' Despite the intensifying election competition in the U.S., Trump has not yet introduced his Vice Presidential candidate to the public. An assassination attempt on Trump has caused fear ahead of the Republican National Convention.
