Donald Trump Once Again Denies Collusion with Russia

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has once again emphasized that there was no 'collusion' between him and Russia during the U.S. presidential election. According to Reuters, Mr. Trump also denied reports regarding a request to James Comey, the dismissed director of the FBI, to end the investigation into Michael Flynn. Speaking at a joint press conference with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, Trump commented on the controversy surrounding Russia's potential interference in the 2016 election, stating: 'All that is being raised is noise for a biased pursuit.' Mr. Trump asserted: 'There is no collusion between me and Russia. None.' Reports indicate that the FBI is currently conducting investigations into the possibility of Russian interference in the elections. However, Trump's dismissal of James Comey, who was leading these investigations, and subsequent reports about Trump's request to Comey to stop the investigation into Flynn led Democrats in Congress to call for a special counsel to be appointed. Michael Flynn, the U.S. National Security Advisor, resigned following media reports about his contact with the Russian ambassador. Meanwhile, Trump also denied reports regarding his request to Comey about Flynn. Earlier on Thursday, the U.S. President reacted to the Justice Department's move to appoint a special counsel to lead the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Trump tweeted that he is facing 'the greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history.' Rod Rosenstein, the Deputy Attorney General, appointed Robert Mueller, the former FBI director, as the special counsel on Wednesday. Rosenstein stated that appointing someone outside the current political hierarchy is in the public interest. Mueller has full authority to conduct the investigation, chooses his own staff, and is not required to report or consult with the Justice Department or the White House regarding the investigation process.
