Donald Trump: The Protests Against Brett Kavanaugh Are Funded by George Soros

On Friday, October 5, U.S. President Donald Trump accused protesters opposing Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. of being "professional and paid" individuals whose financial backing comes from billionaire investor and influential liberal George Soros. Trump tweeted: "These rude loudmouths are professional and paid individuals whose only goal is to destroy the reputation of senators. Don't be fooled by them." He added: "Look at their identical signs, all professionally made. The money comes from Soros and others. These are not signs made out of interest and in people's basements. They are rioters!" Democrats claim that the FBI's investigation into sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh, Trump's nominee for the Supreme Court, is rushed and flawed. However, Republicans dismissed these criticisms and held the first vote on the matter in the U.S. Senate on Friday. The final vote on Kavanaugh's qualification is scheduled for Saturday. If his nomination is approved, conservative judges will hold a majority in the Supreme Court, which has nine seats, for decades to come. According to AFP, on Thursday, a large crowd of opponents gathered around the U.S. Capitol to express their views to senators in the Senate hallways. Meanwhile, senators took turns reading the only copy of the FBI's confidential report on Kavanaugh in one of the basement rooms of the Senate building. Over 300 people were arrested during the protest on Thursday, including comedian Amy Schumer, who is related to Chuck Schumer, the head of the Democratic faction in the Senate, and model Emily Ratajkowski. George Soros, an American-Hungarian billionaire, supported Hillary Clinton, Trump's Democratic rival, in the 2016 presidential election. Soros, who is listed among the wealthiest people in the world by Forbes magazine, has been accused by nationalists in various countries of supporting political and civil protests and defending liberal viewpoints. In 1992, Soros gained notoriety as "the man who broke the Bank of England" for his speculation against the pound sterling, which caused a significant drop in the British currency.
