Donald Trump's Lawyer Resigns

"John Dowd," one of the main lawyers on Donald Trump's legal team regarding the investigation into possible Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election, has resigned from his position. The New York Times reported this news, citing two informed sources. The report states that Mr. Dowd resigned because Mr. Trump did not take his legal advice "seriously" and "did not act on it." In a brief email to a Washington Post reporter, John Dowd confirmed his resignation, stating, "I love the president and wish him success." Dowd joined the president's legal team last summer after the resignation of Mark Kasowitz, Trump's personal lawyer. Reports indicate that "Joseph diGenova," a legal attorney and television personality, will lead Trump's legal team. Donald Trump believes that the investigations by Special Counsel Robert Mueller into possible Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election are "baseless" and "fabricated." Several U.S. intelligence agencies had previously stated that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election and attempted to change the election outcome in favor of Donald Trump through hacking and false propaganda. Russia has denied these allegations. The U.S. president has repeatedly emphasized that there was no collusion between his campaign and Russia to win the presidential election. The special counsel's team has met with several close figures to Donald Trump, including Jeff Sessions, the Attorney General, and Mark Pompeo, the then CIA director. Earlier, at the request of this team, a federal grand jury issued an indictment against 13 Russian citizens and companies accused of interfering in the electoral process and political mechanisms in the U.S. Indictments have also been issued for several figures, including Paul Manafort, who was once the head of Donald Trump's campaign.
