Dozens Killed in Suicide Bombing in Pakistan; ISIS Claims Responsibility

In a suicide bombing on Thursday evening at a shrine in southern Pakistan, at least 75 people have been killed. Media reports indicate that the Islamic State group, ISIS, has claimed responsibility for the attack. According to the Associated Press, the suicide bombing at the 'Lal Shahbaz Qalandar' shrine in the city of 'Sehwan' in southern Sindh province is the deadliest suicide attack in Pakistan in the past two years. The report states that while a large crowd was worshipping in the main hall of the shrine, the suicide bomber entered the hall and detonated himself. Security sources have reported that at least 20 women and 9 children are among the dead. The ISIS-affiliated news network 'Amaq' published a statement from the group claiming responsibility for the attack on the 'Lal Shahbaz Qalandar' shrine, stating that the gathering of 'Shia' was targeted by the suicide bomber. Meanwhile, Raja Samro, an eyewitness, told a local television network that the explosion occurred while hundreds were in the shrine engaged in Sufi dancing and music. He added that after the explosion, all he could see were corpses, the bodies of women and children. Nawaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, condemned the attack and promised that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. In 2014, extremist groups killed 154 people in an attack on a military school in Pakistan. In the same context, the person responsible for the Peshawar school massacre was killed in a U.S. drone strike. An attack on a judicial complex in Pakistan left 12 dead.
