Dozens of Political Activists and Families of Victims Urge Dutch Government: Declare the IRGC as a Terrorist Organization

More than a hundred Iranian citizens residing in the Netherlands, including political activists, members of families seeking justice, and former political prisoners, have issued a statement calling for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to be placed on the terrorist list. The signatories of this statement, referring to the recent arrest of a suspect involved in plotting the assassination of an Iranian journalist in the Netherlands, emphasized: "The Islamic Republic has been using criminal gangs from other countries for years to gather information on opposition activists, threaten, intimidate, and assassinate opponents of the regime." They further stressed that the design and organization of this "systematic policy" is carried out by "Islamic Republic diplomats and the IRGC in Middle Eastern and European countries." According to reports, a French-Tunisian citizen recently arrested by Dutch police was linked to the Islamic Republic and had two Iranians residing in the Netherlands on his assassination list. The signatories condemned the "terrorist attacks of the Islamic Republic" in the Netherlands, stating: "The first step in this direction is to place the IRGC on the terrorist list, similar to the action taken by the Canadian government." On June 20, Canada announced that it would designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization. This action by Canada was met with widespread support from political activists, human rights advocates, and opponents of the Islamic Republic. The Biden administration welcomed Canada's decision to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization. Five Iranians "affiliated with the Islamic Republic" are on the verge of being expelled from Canada; Ottawa has not disclosed the names of those being expelled. The United States described the IRGC as "a danger to the entire world"; Miller stated: "We will help other countries also consider the IRGC a 'terrorist group.'"
