Ebadi: The Islamic Republic's Aid to Hezbollah Victims is Not Humanitarian

Shirin Ebadi, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, stated in an Instagram post on Thursday, September 20, that the transfer of victims from the explosion of Hezbollah's agents' pagers for treatment in Iran is not an act of humanitarianism. She regarded helping patients, victims, and the injured anywhere in the world, regardless of gender, race, belief, or political bias, as an 'obvious necessity,' but emphasized that 'the Islamic Republic's aid to the victims of Hezbollah in Lebanon is not based on humanitarianism or helping fellow humans, as these same individuals took protesters like Behnam Mahjoubi from prison to the hospital and killed him.' The lawyer also noted, 'Every time the Islamic Republic speaks of helping a patient or injured person, we must think of those patients who were deprived of treatment due to their beliefs and political views and lost their lives. The question is whether the Lebanese injured are treated in the same hospitals where individuals like Behnam Mahjoubi were killed.' Shirin Ebadi concluded by stating, 'The issue for us is not the Lebanese victims. The issue is the hundreds of injured from the protests in Iran, who did not have security in hospitals due to military forces pursuing them. The issue is the dozens of eye injuries that forced individuals to leave their homeland for treatment. The issue is the use of hospitals as military targets and shooting at protesters. We are talking about obvious necessities.' After the explosion of thousands of communication devices belonging to Hezbollah's militia, the Islamic Republic announced that it had transferred some of the injured from this incident to Iran for treatment. This action by the Iranian government faced protests and opposition from many people and the injured from the 2022 protests in Iran. Following the brutal suppression of nationwide protests and according to human rights organizations' statistics, hundreds of Iranian protesters were injured by direct gunfire from government agents, many of whom refused treatment in hospitals for fear of arrest, and many others were forced to leave their homeland to seek medical care. The Islamic Republic, after shooting at protesters' eyes in Iran, is concerned about the injured eyes in Lebanon.
