Efforts to Free Hostages; CIA Chief and Officials from Israel, Egypt, and Qatar Meet in Europe

CNN reported, citing an American official, that William Burns, the head of the CIA, is expected to meet with officials from Israel, Egypt, and Qatar in a European country in the coming days. The purpose of these meetings is to discuss an agreement for the release of the remaining hostages in Gaza. Hamas militants took over 240 people hostage during their attack on Israel on October 7 and brought them to Gaza. Among the hostages are elderly individuals and children. More than 100 hostages were released during a one-week ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, but approximately 130 hostages remain in Gaza. This American official told CNN that the new agreement would include the release of hostages and a halt to hostilities in Gaza. The Times of Israel also reported, citing two officials from the country, that William Burns and David Barnea, the head of Mossad, will meet with Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, in Europe to discuss a temporary ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages. A source also told the publication that Abbas Kamel, the head of Egypt's intelligence service, will participate in this meeting. Channel 12 in Israel also reported that Ronen Bar, the head of Shin Bet, will be present at the meetings.
