Eight Individuals Involved in the Attack on Parliament Executed

Iranian media reported that the Tehran Prosecutor's Office announced the execution of eight individuals who "collaborated with the main perpetrators" in last year's attack on the Parliament building and the tomb of Ayatollah Khomeini. The announcement from the Tehran Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office, which was reflected in Iranian media on Saturday, July 6, did not specify the time of execution, but the news of their sentence being "sent for execution" was published the previous Friday. The names of the executed individuals include Soleiman Mozaffari, Ismail Soufi, Rahman Behrouz, Majid Mortazai, Cyrus Azizi, Ayoub Asmaili, Khosrow Ramazani, and Osman Behrouz. The Tehran Prosecutor's announcement detailed their collaboration, including finding one of the attacker's phones in the home of one of the accused, escorting the attackers' team in Kermanshah, assisting in moving and housing the attackers, and purchasing or storing military ammunition. The head of the Tehran Revolutionary Courts had announced the death sentences a day earlier, citing their crime as "aiding in rebellion." On June 7, 2017, two armed attacks occurred at the Iranian Parliament and the tomb of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, resulting in 17 deaths, and according to Islamic Republic officials, five of the attackers were also killed in suicide bombings or clashes with security forces. The ISIS group claimed responsibility for these two attacks. Previously, the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence had identified five attackers killed on the day of the attack as Seryas, Abu Jihad, Ramin, Qayoom, and Fereydoun, but the Tehran judiciary announcement referred to the full names Seryas Sadeqi and Qayoom Haqpanah. Furthermore, while the number of victims from last year's attacks in Tehran was reported as 17, the Tehran Prosecutor's Office mentioned 18 dead and about 40 wounded. The case of the Tehran attacks has 26 defendants, and the trial for the eight executed individuals took place about two months ago. According to Iranian media reports, the trial for 18 other defendants in this case will be held in the coming months. In recent years, especially after last year's attacks in Tehran, Iranian security officials have repeatedly reported the arrest of several individuals suspected of links to ISIS in various regions of Iran without providing details.
