Ejei: Rezaian has a prison sentence, but it has not been communicated to him

Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the spokesman for Iran's judiciary, announced on Sunday, November 22, that although the sentence for Jason Rezaian, a reporter for the Washington Post, has not been communicated to him or his lawyer, he has been sentenced to prison. Ejei stated that the sentence has been issued but did not specify the length of the prison term or other details. Jason Rezaian has been detained since July 22 of last year on charges of 'espionage' and 'acting against national security.' The Washington Post has repeatedly called these accusations baseless. The last hearing for Rezaian's case was held on August 10 in a closed session at the Revolutionary Court presided over by Judge Salavati. In recent weeks, several journalists and media figures have been arrested by the IRGC's intelligence, with some being accused of being part of a Western infiltration network. However, the judiciary spokesman noted that not all detainees are journalists, and some cases will be sent to court separately. Ejei also commented on the 'destruction of two terrorist teams' in West Azerbaijan and Sistan and Baluchestan provinces, stating that these are branches of Takfiri groups supported by the U.S. The Iranian Ministry of Intelligence reported the dismantling of these teams, which allegedly planned to carry out bombings. Furthermore, Ejei addressed the issue of illegal scholarships, stating that a recent order from the Supreme Leader requested that complaints regarding this matter be handled by the Supreme Court. This comes after the Ministry of Science announced the cancellation of 863 illegal scholarships linked to the previous administration. The Supreme Leader has indicated that the issue is not as it has been portrayed in the media.
