Elon Musk, the billionaire tech entrepreneur, says that artificial intelligence will likely take all jobs from us in the future, but this is not necessarily a bad thing. Speaking via video link at the 8th Startup and Technology Innovations Conference 2024 in Paris on Thursday, June 3, he stated, 'Probably none of us will have jobs.' He described a future where jobs will be 'optional.' The owner of SpaceX and the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) emphasized, 'If you want to do something that is somewhat entertaining, you can choose to do a job. Otherwise, AI and robots will provide any goods and services you want.' Musk also mentioned that for this scenario to become a reality, there must be a 'high global income,' which should not be confused with a universal basic income. Universal basic income refers to a certain amount of money paid by governments to individuals, regardless of how much they earn themselves. According to Elon Musk, if this scenario is realized, 'there will be no shortage of goods or services.' The future of artificial intelligence has become a controversial topic in recent years, with lawmakers, industry owners, and consumers still evaluating how to use this tool responsibly. The important question is how much AI will threaten jobs in the coming years. According to CNN, researchers at the University of Michigan's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory have found that businesses are adopting AI much slower than some expected and feared. The report also states that most jobs previously identified as vulnerable to AI were not economically productive for employers at that time. Experts largely believe that many jobs requiring high emotional intelligence and human interaction, including psychology, creative roles, and teaching, are irreplaceable.
