Enrique Mora's Planned Visit to Tehran; Attending Medicalian's Swearing-In Ceremony

The Wall Street Journal reporter, citing a senior EU official, reported on Enrique Mora, Josep Borrell's deputy, traveling to Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Medicalian. Lawrence Norman announced this news on his X account, stating that the rise of Medicalian is 'significant,' and added that the Islamic Republic has officially invited Josep Borrell, who is in the final months of his tenure as the EU's foreign policy chief, to travel to Iran for Medicalian's swearing-in ceremony; however, instead of him, Enrique Mora will go to Tehran. The senior EU official explained the reasoning behind replacing Mora with Borrell for the trip to Tehran: 'Currently, EU relations with Iran are at their lowest level, and we think it is better for the senior EU foreign policy representative not to go to Tehran.' He also added: 'The issue of placing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on the list of terrorist organizations was last discussed two weeks ago, and since there is still no agreement in the EU working group on this, the matter is currently not on the agenda of the EU ministers.' Following the recent elections of the EU in member countries from June 6 to 10, EU leaders have mostly changed. Among the most significant changes, on July 28, EU members replaced Josep Borrell with Kaja Kallas, the Prime Minister of Estonia, to take over the leadership of EU foreign policy. Ms. Kallas is expected to be appointed as the head of EU foreign policy later this year and officially begin her work.
