Erfan Karam Veisi, Lawyer for Political Prisoners and Teachers, Summoned to Prosecutor's Office

Erfan Karam Veisi, a lawyer for political prisoners and teachers, announced his summons along with one of his clients to Branch 3 of the Evin Prosecutor's Office. On Thursday, November 9, he mentioned in his account on X (formerly Twitter) that the charges against him are 'propaganda activities and dissemination of falsehoods,' and that his client, Jafar Ebrahimi, has also been summoned as a witness in the case. According to Erfan Karam Veisi, he must appear at Branch 3 of the Evin Prosecutor's Office within five days to defend himself. Jafar Ebrahimi, a member of the board of the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers' Trade Associations, has been imprisoned since May 2022 due to his union activities and has recently been granted medical leave from Qazal Hesar Prison. Erfan Karam Veisi had previously announced on X about the ruling of the first court regarding the buyout of Jafar Ebrahimi after 23 years of work experience. Concurrently with the intensification of pressures on civil, union, political activists, and families seeking justice by the Iranian government, several lawyers have also been summoned and faced prison sentences. Recently, Saleh Nikbakht, the lawyer for the family of Mahsa Amini, was tried and sentenced to one year in prison. Amnesty International has criticized the arbitrary detention and summons of tens of thousands, including protesters, human rights defenders, minority rights activists, journalists, and lawyers. The case of the family of Abolfazl Adinehzadeh has been 'closed'; the investigator advised them to seek blood money. Lawyers for the family of Shirin Alizadeh stated that instead of addressing their complaint, they have also become 'indebted.' The lawyer for Dr. Qareh Hasnlou reacted to the claim of the father of Ajamian regarding the interference of 'Valiati' in the case: the state media should allow defense. Nasrin Sotoudeh was arrested at the funeral of Armita Garavand.
