Escalation of Clashes Between Israel and Hezbollah; Israel Conducts Heavy Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon

Continuing the clashes at the Lebanon-Israel border, on Wednesday, the Israeli army carried out heavy airstrikes in southern Lebanon, and Hezbollah announced that it had launched drones and missiles at Israeli targets. Hezbollah also stated that the Israeli attacks killed three Palestinian fighters from the Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad. Hezbollah claims that at least one of its own fighters was also killed. Security sources reported that the Israeli attacks in Lebanon resulted in three fatalities. The clashes between Hezbollah and Israel are occurring alongside the Gaza war, displacing tens of thousands on both sides. The Israeli army stated that it targeted military structures and infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah, supported by the Islamic Republic of Iran, at three locations in southern Lebanon, which included over 20 strikes on Hezbollah targets in the Ramieh area. Hezbollah claims that at least ten attacks were carried out by this group, including the firing of drones at a military base in the border town of Yaira and targeting a barracks in Biranit with powerful 'Burkan' missiles. The National News Agency of Lebanon reported Israeli attacks on 28 towns and villages in southern Lebanon, which is one of Hezbollah's bases. According to Reuters, two security sources in Lebanon stated that the Israelis used powerful munitions to hit Hezbollah's underground bunkers. The Israeli army reported that secondary explosions were detected during the attack on the Ramieh area, indicating the presence of weapon storage facilities in that location. The displacement of about 60,000 residents from northern Israel has intensified pressures within the country for stronger military action against Hezbollah. Approximately 90,000 people have also been displaced along the Lebanon border due to Israeli attacks. Yoav Galant, Israel's Defense Minister, spoke with soldiers during a visit to northern Israel and stated that the mission in Lebanon is not over. In a video message released by his office, he said that for the safe return of residents in northern Israel, a diplomatic agreement or military solution is needed, and the Israeli armed forces must be prepared. Sources in Lebanon report that over 250 Hezbollah members and 75 civilians have been killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon since the beginning of the escalation of clashes in October. In Israel, 20 people, including soldiers and civilians, have been killed. The United States has sanctioned five individuals for 'circumventing Hezbollah sanctions.' Samir Geagea stated that Hezbollah's futile war with Israel has harmed Lebanon. The French Foreign Minister has entered Lebanon in an effort to stop the clashes between Hezbollah and Israel. The European Parliament has passed a resolution stating that the IRGC and Hezbollah as a whole should be placed on the list of 'terrorist organizations.' The Israeli army announced that two field commanders of Hezbollah have been killed.
