EU Likely to Sanction Iranian Shipping on Monday

A Wall Street Journal reporter claimed that the European Union will impose sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran's shipping on Monday of this week. Lawrence Norman wrote on his X account: "The EU is set to announce new sanctions against Tehran on Monday, November 19, in response to the Islamic Republic's provision of missiles to Russia." According to this reporter, the new EU sanctions will target various sectors, including the Islamic Republic's shipping. Among the targets of these sanctions, which will be voted on Monday, November 19, is the Islamic Republic Shipping Group. The EU believes that this group has been "involved in the transfer of military shipments for years." On Monday, October 15, the EU also imposed sanctions against the Iranian Deputy Minister of Defense, senior members of the Revolutionary Guards, and three airlines accused of sending drones, missiles, and other equipment to Russia for use in the war against Ukraine. Reports indicated that the names of three airlines, Iran Air, Mahan Air, and Saha, as well as Seyyed Hamzeh Gholandari, the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Islamic Republic of Iran, were among those sanctioned. The EU stated that the aircraft of these companies have "frequently been used to transfer Iranian-made drones and related technologies to Russia," which has employed them in its "aggressive war" against Ukraine. The sanctions against Iran Air in the EU raise the question of whether they harm the Iranian people or the Iranian government.
