European Politician Survives Assassination Attempt, Urges West to End 'Appeasement' with the Islamic Republic

A Spanish politician says the West must end its 'appeasement' of the Islamic Republic. Alejandro Vidal Quadras, who served as Vice President of the European Parliament from 2009 to 2014, was the target of an assassination attempt in Madrid last November and firmly believes that the 'Iranian regime' is responsible for this act. The founder of the far-right party 'Vox' in Spain told the Daily Telegraph that the UK should end all trade with Iran, designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization, and send 'immediate aid' to opponents of the Iranian government. The 78-year-old Vidal Quadras was attacked during a walk last November, suffering a broken jaw, with a bullet passing close to his neck and brain. According to reports, Vidal Quadras was placed on Iran's sanctions blacklist in October 2022. A total of five people have been arrested as part of the investigation into the shooting, including a British woman who has not yet been tried. The Daily Telegraph reports that the fugitive Tunisian attacker is suspected of having ties to the Iranian government and has not yet been apprehended. Mr. Vidal Quadras, who is himself opposed to Catalan separatists in Spain, has accused the Islamic Republic of issuing the assassination order because he is a vocal opponent of the regime and a supporter of the 'National Council of Resistance of Iran.' Maryam Rajavi, the head of the 'National Council of Resistance of Iran,' a Paris-based group close to the Mojahedin-e Khalq and opposed to the Islamic Republic, stated in a video speech at a meeting in the British Parliament on Tuesday that the attack 'showed that the clerical regime is a dangerous enemy of humanity.' The Daily Telegraph states that police believe the shooting of Alejandro Vidal Quadras was likely an assassination attempt ordered by the Iranian government. A Spanish politician claims the Iranian government is responsible for the assassination attempt against him. Spanish police have arrested three individuals in connection with the assassination attempt on the former politician.
