Every Day, One Hundred People Become Disabled in Iran Due to Road Accidents

Masoud Habibi, head of the Iranian Red Crescent Youth Organization, states that every day, one hundred people are added to the number of disabled individuals across the country due to road accidents. According to the Iranian Labor News Agency, ILNA, Mr. Habibi announced at the opening ceremony of the national campaign 'No to Road Accidents' that in addition to this statistic, fifty people also lose their lives on the country's roads daily, and sixteen times this number are injured. Among these injured individuals, one hundred become disabled each day. Mr. Habibi, in anticipation of Nowruz and the increase in road travel, also reported that a large number of young volunteers have joined the Red Crescent Youth Organization to participate in the campaign to reduce road accidents during Nowruz. He mentioned that twenty thousand young volunteers will be active at one thousand bases during Nowruz. The 'No to Road Accidents' campaign began on Thursday, March 20, with the aim of reducing road casualties and in the presence of several Iranian officials. Iran is among the countries with high road casualty statistics, having lost over one hundred thousand lives on its roads in the past five years. This figure increases each year during Nowruz with the rise in road traffic, to the extent that in just the first six days of Farvardin 1393, one hundred thirty people lost their lives on Iranian roads. However, the head of Iran's Legal Medicine Organization announced at the beginning of this month that road fatalities in Iran decreased by three percent in the first ten months of the year 94. In this context, the deaths of one hundred thousand people on Iranian roads over five years, approximately eleven thousand deaths in traffic accidents in seven months, and fourteen thousand fatalities from traffic accidents in ten months are highlighted.
