Evin Officials Prevent the Transfer of Imprisoned Labor Activist Davood Rezavi to Hospital

On Thursday, November 4, the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company announced that Evin prison officials prevented the transfer of Davood Rezavi, a board member of the syndicate, to the hospital for continued treatment. Mr. Rezavi, who has been detained since October 5 of last year, has developed stomach issues, vision problems, and knee pain due to the poor conditions in prison and prolonged interrogations. In the past, he was treated and underwent endoscopy after being sent to the hospital. The syndicate pointed out that according to the doctor, continued treatment and timely visits are necessary to monitor his health conditions. Nevertheless, Evin prison officials have prevented his transfer to the hospital for continued treatment due to his not wearing prison clothes. The syndicate noted that Mr. Rezavi has the legal right not to wear prison clothes and had previously been sent to the hospital several times without wearing them despite initial refusals and excuses. This labor organization added that the behavior of Evin prison officials indicates that illegally forcing a prisoner to wear prison clothes is more valuable to them than the life of the individual. They also referenced similar treatment of another imprisoned board member, Reza Shahabi. The syndicate condemned these inhumane and illegal behaviors of prison officials and called for the immediate transfer of their imprisoned members, Davood Rezavi and Reza Shahabi, to the hospital in accordance with recognized international laws and standards. They held the government authorities fully responsible for their health and lives. The Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company also demanded the unconditional release of Davood Rezavi, Reza Shahabi, Hassan Saidi, and other labor, teacher, and civil activists. The prevention of treatment for Ismail Abdi and Reza Shahabi was decided by the judicial authorities of the Islamic Republic. The Tehran Bus Syndicate stated that security officials are preventing Reza Shahabi's surgery. Davood Rezavi's five-year prison sentence was upheld by the appeals court. The Syndicate condemned the 'case-making' and 'scenario-building' against labor activists. New case-making against three imprisoned labor activists was also condemned by the Syndicate. The Syndicate of Workers of Tehran called for the abolition of the death penalty for political and general prisoners.
