Exclusive: German Parliament Representative and Political Advocate for Tomaj Salehi: Tomaj is Still in Danger

Yi-Wan Ri, a representative of the German Parliament and political advocate for Tomaj Salehi, expressed satisfaction in an exclusive interview with Voice of America regarding Tomaj's release on bail, stating that while it is better that the protesting rapper is no longer in prison, all charges against him remain, thus he is still at risk. Tomaj Salehi, a dissenting rap artist who was arrested during last year's nationwide protests in Iran, was released from the Dastgerd prison in Isfahan on Saturday, November 18, after posting bail. Yi-Wan Ri emphasized that while Tomaj's release is a positive development, it is important not to celebrate too much as the actions of the Iranian regime are unpredictable. He warned that Tomaj could be arrested again next week or might never be detained again. He urged everyone to remain aware of Tomaj and other prisoners. Yi-Wan Ri mentioned he has not yet had the opportunity to speak with Tomaj but noted that he saw him smiling and trying to enjoy his time after being released. He expressed his commitment to always support Tomaj, highlighting the suffering he has endured, especially in the past year. Tomaj expressed sadness that he was released alone while many others remain imprisoned. Earlier this year, Tomaj was sentenced to six years and three months in prison, a travel ban, and restrictions on producing music due to charges related to his protests. He was previously convicted in 2021 for insulting the leadership and propaganda against the regime. Nasrin Sotoudeh has called for the immediate release of Tomaj Salehi and all political prisoners.
