Exclusive; Lawyer of the Adinehzadeh Family: My Clients Have Been Arrested and I Have No Information About Their Condition

Khosrow Alikordi, the lawyer for the family of Abolfazl Adinehzadeh, said in an exclusive interview with the Persian section of Voice of America on Saturday that he has no information about the condition of his detained clients. According to Mr. Alikordi, at 4 PM on Friday, June 16, 2023, Ali Adinehzadeh, along with Marzieh Adinehzadeh, Reza Adinehzadeh, and Mousa Adinehzadeh, went to the site where Abolfazl Adinehzadeh lost his life in front of Ferdowsi University in Mashhad to commemorate him by laying flowers. He further stated that these individuals, despite not engaging in any illegal or subversive behavior and only bringing bouquets, were violently arrested by security forces at the site. He reported that at 6 PM the same day, Goldasteh Hosseini, Abolfazl Adinehzadeh's mother, was also arrested in Najafabad, their hometown, along with several relatives. Mr. Alikordi added that he went to the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office of Faruj County to follow up on the status of his clients and the detainees, but was denied entry to the prosecutor's office building due to a 'contrary order' from the prosecutor of Faruj, Mr. Mohammadpour, despite waiting for an hour and a half behind closed doors, and he could not obtain any information about their condition. He concluded his interview by noting that the basic rights of the detainees, including the right to access a phone and a lawyer, have been violated. According to a report published on social media, after security forces prevented the Adinehzadeh family from holding a birthday ceremony for him, the family of another deceased protester, Erfan Khazaei, celebrated Abolfazl's 18th birthday with the song 'Javoonah.' Abolfazl Adinehzadeh was killed on October 8 of last year during nationwide protests against the killing of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini while in the custody of the morality police, in front of Ferdowsi University in Mashhad by the security forces of the Islamic Republic. Abolfazl's father visited his son's grave before attending court.
