Execution of Three Prisoners in Various Cities; One Woman Among the Executed

Human rights media reported the execution of three prisoners, including a woman, for charges related to drug offenses and murder in the prisons of Tabriz and Zanjan. Iran Human Rights Organization announced that Zahra Faizi, 41 years old, Mostafa Kavandi, 39 years old, and Ali Bahrami, 36 years old, were executed. According to reports, Mostafa Kavandi and Ali Bahrami were sentenced to death for drug-related offenses. Zahra Faizi was arrested four years ago for the murder of her husband and subsequently sentenced to death. The news website HRANA reported in its annual report that in the year 1402 (2023), at least 767 citizens, including 21 women and 2 child offenders, were executed. Notably, 7 of these executions were carried out in public. Mahmoud Amiri-Moghaddam, director of Iran Human Rights Organization, previously stated that the Islamic Republic executed at least 471 people last year for drug-related charges 'to intimidate society and prevent protests.' In this context, over 80 human rights organizations issued a statement requesting that the continuation of cooperation between the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Islamic Republic be conditional on halting drug-related executions. Additionally, the Hengaw Human Rights Organization reported in May of this year a more than 300% increase in executions in Iran within one month, indicating the Islamic Republic's acceleration in executions. A Baluch prisoner 'deprived of treatment' passed away. The Human Rights Defenders Association supported the complaints of the families of four executed political prisoners to the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances.
