Eyal Zamir Takes Command of the Israeli Army

Eyal Zamir was appointed as the 24th commander of the Israeli army on Wednesday, March 6, replacing Herzi Halevi, who resigned due to the army's failure to prevent the Hamas attack on October 7 of last year. According to the 'Times of Israel', Eyal Zamir pledged to lead the army to victory, call upon members of the extremist Orthodox community to serve in the military, and bring home all hostages still held by the terrorist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip. During the October 7 attack, approximately 1,200 people were killed, most of whom were civilians. Additionally, over 250 hostages were taken, including children and the elderly. Based on information published on the Israeli army's website, Eyal Zamir served as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the army from 2018 to 2021. He also previously commanded the Southern Command, the unit responsible for military and defense operations, including along the Gaza border. Furthermore, Eyal Zamir has served as the military secretary to Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel. With 28 years of service in the Israeli army, he will lead an army that has been engaged in war in Gaza, military conflicts in Lebanon, and airstrikes from Iran, Iraq, and Yemen over the past 15 months. A Hezbollah commander was killed in an Israeli drone attack in southern Lebanon. The Hamas commander in Jenin was killed by Israel.
