Faezeh Hashemi: If Miss Marple Were Here, She Could Find a Clue About My Father's Death

On the second anniversary of her father Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani's death, one of the founders of the Islamic Republic, Faezeh Hashemi stated that many ambiguities still surround the cause of his death, suggesting that if 'Miss Marple' were in Iran, she might uncover a clue. Mr. Rafsanjani suffered a cardiac arrest while swimming in a pool belonging to the Expediency Discernment Council on January 8, 2017, and passed away at the age of 82. However, his family believes that the cause of death was not natural. In a video interview released on January 10, Faezeh Hashemi expressed that there is no 'will or effort' to uncover the truth, and the Security Council 'did not continue the search.' A group of seminary students in Qom held a protest against President Hassan Rouhani in late August, during which one placard drew significant attention, stating 'O you who preach negotiation, the Farah pool awaits you,' interpreted as a threat to Rouhani and fueling suspicions that Rafsanjani's death may not have been natural. Although Faezeh Hashemi claims that this pool did not belong to Farah Pahlavi, the last queen of Iran, and was built years after the 1979 revolution, she emphasizes that this phrase or slogan is 'a tool for threat.' She stated, 'These threats leave a trace for reaching the truth... Perhaps if we had a private investigator or Miss Marple here, she could find a clue about my father's death, but for us, ambiguities remain unresolved.' Miss Marple is a fictional character created by Agatha Christie, known for solving murder mysteries in over ten of her novels and short stories. Previously, Fatemeh Hashemi, Rafsanjani's eldest daughter, mentioned that two months before her father's death, two individuals from 'the front and war' had warned her that there were plans to assassinate him. Fatemeh Hashemi also reported that her father's urine and towel were contaminated with radioactive materials above the permissible limit of 10 percent. However, Mohsen Hashemi, Rafsanjani's eldest son and the head of Tehran City Council, rejected this claim on January 8, calling it merely an 'emotional reaction' from his sister and 'number fabrication.' Nevertheless, he acknowledged in the same interview that 'a senior security official had privately informed Fatemeh [Hashemi] about the radioactive contamination.' Mohsen Hashemi further stated, 'Regarding the cause of his death, we have not yet reached a definitive conclusion and cannot say that there is complete evidence for natural death.' This discussion was also raised by Mohammad Hashemi, Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani's brother, who emphasized in an interview with Khabar Online that 'it is unclear what caused the cardiac arrest, and this is the point of ambiguity that has existed from the beginning and was not discussed.' Mohammad Hashemi ultimately stated that the Security Council's report on his brother's death is now in the hands of Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran.
