Update: North Korea's state news agency reported the failure of the country's spy satellite launch, which fell into the Yellow Sea west of the Korean Peninsula. According to the report, the Chollima-1 satellite lost its propulsion during the second stage of the launch due to an abnormal engine ignition and crashed. According to Reuters, air raid sirens sounded across Seoul, the capital of South Korea, around 6:30 AM, asking citizens to prepare for a possible evacuation of the city. Following this report, Agence France-Presse cited South Korean officials stating that the 'city evacuation' order was issued mistakenly. Previously, North Korea, which is equipped with nuclear weapons, had claimed to have completed its first spy satellite and would conduct the launch between May 31 and June 21 after approval from Kim Jong Un, the North Korean leader. Meanwhile, Japan reacted to North Korea's announcement of a future satellite launch by placing its ballistic missile defense system on standby, stating it would destroy any projectile threatening its territory. According to Reuters, this is the latest step by North Korea in a series of missile launches and military tests in recent months, including the launch of a solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile. Analysts say the new North Korean satellite is part of a technological espionage program that includes drone detection and aims to improve the ability to strike various targets during wartime. The Japanese Ministry of Defense stated, 'We will take destructive actions against ballistic missiles and other projectiles that land on our territory.' In this confrontation, Fumio Kishida, the Prime Minister of Japan, told reporters that any missile launch by North Korea is a serious violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions condemning Pyongyang's nuclear and missile activities.
