Families of Some Executed Individuals in Iran File Complaint with the United Nations

On Sunday, October 8, the wives of four political prisoners executed in Iran announced that they have filed a complaint against the Islamic Republic of Iran with the "Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances" of the United Nations. The wives of Mohsen Mazloom, Mohammad Faramarzi, Vafa Azarbar, and Pejman Fatehi, who were executed on January 29 of last year, stated that they have begun their "justice-seeking movement" and have, with the assistance of the families' lawyer, filed a complaint against the Islamic Republic of Iran with this group at the first available legal opportunity. The "Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances" was established about 44 years ago and its main task is to assist families in determining the fate or whereabouts of their family members who have reportedly disappeared. Joanna Timsi, Maria Mahmoudi, Golestan Arzhangi, and Bayan Azimi added: "We, the grieving families, will pursue all existing international and national legal mechanisms, no matter how complex and difficult, in our quest for justice" and emphasized that they want to be "the resonant voice of justice-seeking" against the Islamic Republic of Iran. They stated, "Our aim is to hold the Islamic Republic accountable for the extrajudicial execution and the concealment of the bodies and graves of our loved ones." Mohsen Mazloom, Mohammad Faramarzi, Vafa Azarbar, and Pejman Fatehi, four Kurdish political prisoners, were executed at dawn on January 29 of last year in Gohardasht Prison in Karaj, despite widespread international protests and significant requests within Iran. They were members of the Komala Party of Kurdistan, arrested in Urmia in 2022, and accused of "espionage for Israel," an accusation that was strongly denied by the four individuals themselves. Their lawyer also protested the "unfair trial process" regarding these charges. Despite the fact that after the execution of Pejman Fatehi, Mohsen Mazloom, Mohammad Faramarzi, and Vafa Azarbar, the security and judicial officials of the Islamic Republic promised to transfer their bodies to Kurdistan and deliver them to their families, they have refrained from doing so and have not yet informed their families of their burial locations. Additionally, it has been reported that some German parliament representatives have called for pressure on the Islamic Republic to end executions in Iran, and protests against executions have been held in 11 cities across Europe. Strikes continue in several cities in Iran, with people visiting the families of those executed.
