Family Members of Tabriz Doctor Killed by 'Contaminated Religious Food'

Reports about the death of the wife and grandmother of a doctor in Tabriz due to consuming 'suspicious religious food' have been confirmed, and the Minister of Health along with the Chief Justice of East Azerbaijan has announced that they are following up on this case. The local website 'Asr Tabriz' was one of the first media outlets to publish the news of the death of two family members of this Tabriz doctor on October 10. This website reported that 'an unknown person visited the doctor's office and delivered food that was apparently contaminated with cyanide or rice pills,' which caused several family members to suffer poisoning and be transferred to the hospital. 'Asr Tabriz' also reported the death of the wife and grandmother and the poisoning of the doctor’s parents. The ILNA news agency also reported on October 20, confirming the death of two family members of Mr. Solhi, a political activist from East Azerbaijan and a member of the 'Unity of Nations' party. Mohammad Timouri, the head of the East Azerbaijan region of the 'Unity of Nations' party, also expressed condolences to Mr. Solhi for the death of his grandmother and wife in a statement. The IRNA news agency reported that the forensic medicine organization of East Azerbaijan confirmed the deaths of these two individuals and took samples from the grandmother's body. According to this report, 'the reason for referring the body to the forensic medicine hall was the suspicion that her death was caused by contaminated religious food.' Meanwhile, Jamal Hosseini, the public relations manager of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, told Mehr news agency that 'the food poisoning of this family has been confirmed and is certain.' Mr. Hosseini added: 'The family of the young Tabriz doctor has been targeted with contaminated religious food for suspicious reasons.' An informed source in the police department also announced that the suspect in distributing the contaminated religious food has not yet been arrested and 'police investigations are continuing with full seriousness.' However, Hikmat Ali Mozaffari, the Chief Justice of East Azerbaijan, stated that 'the truth of this claim has not yet been proven' and added: 'Considering that the case is in the investigation stage, any comments in this regard are devoid of reality.' Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi, the Minister of Health, also expressed his condolences for the death of Alireza Solhi's wife and grandmother and emphasized the need to investigate the cause of this incident. Alireza Solhi is a well-known doctor in social media, famous for being a 'good handwriting doctor' and a 'philanthropist.' Recently, one of his prescriptions was circulated on social media, in which he advised one of his patients to heal by listening to the voices of Shahryar and Salar Aghili. Another prescription from this doctor requested pharmacies to 'contact him if a patient has difficulty paying for medication.' The image of this prescription circulated widely in groups and social networks, reaching millions of people.
