Fatemeh Karroubi: Contrary to the term house arrest, agents of the Ministry of Intelligence are still present in our home

Fatemeh Karroubi, the wife of Mehdi Karroubi, in a letter to the Minister of Intelligence, protested against the "deliberate irresponsibility" of the ministry regarding her husband's life. She stated that security agents, during an emergency involving Mr. Karroubi, are not allowed to contact emergency services and must only contact the Ministry of Intelligence's hospital. In this letter, published on Wednesday, March 9, on the 'Kaleme' website, Fatemeh Karroubi reported that agents of the Ministry of Intelligence "contrary to the term house arrest, are still present in our residential home, and even the most basic household matters are under their control." She did not provide further details about the nature of the security agents' presence in Mr. Karroubi's home or their interference in "current affairs". She emphasized that security agents "in emergency situations where moments are critical" are not allowed to contact emergency services and must only contact the Ministry of Intelligence's hospital. Fatemeh Karroubi stressed that "this bitter experience" occurred during the incident of Mr. Karroubi's leg fracture. She pointed out the significant distance between the Ministry of Intelligence's hospital and Mr. Karroubi's house arrest location, calling the ministry's insistence on contacting this hospital in emergencies "illogical" and "questionable". Fatemeh Karroubi asserted that "this insistence has no meaning other than deliberate irresponsibility regarding Mr. Karroubi's life." She mentioned that on December 15, 2015, she had also written a letter to the Minister of Health regarding the "necessity of cooperation from security officials in pursuing her husband's medical affairs" and felt "compelled" to write to the Minister of Intelligence again. The family of Mehdi Karroubi, Mir Hossein Mousavi, and Zahra Rahnavard have previously expressed concern about their physical condition. Mehdi Karroubi was transferred to the hospital for a heart examination on March 6 and was returned home after the examination. Hussein Karroubi, Mr. Karroubi's son, stated that his father's doctor had reported that "his heartbeat is irregular and out of the normal range," which was the reason for his hospital transfer. Mehdi Karroubi underwent surgery for a leg fracture on December 8, 2015, and following this surgery, Hussein Fereydoun, the brother of the Iranian president, visited him and conveyed President Hassan Rouhani's "greetings". This was Mehdi Karroubi's sixth surgery since the beginning of his house arrest, having previously undergone surgeries for a herniated disc, knee, urinary tract, eye, and heart. Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi, the Minister of Health, announced on March 29 that he is obliged to monitor the health of Mir Hossein Mousavi, Zahra Rahnavard, and Mehdi Karroubi to ensure necessary actions are taken. On March 23, the Kaleme website quoted one of the daughters of Mir Hossein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard, stating that the Minister of Health had visited her parents and issued necessary medical orders after examining them. The children of Mir Hossein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard also announced in March that there had been a "change in the security situation" of their parents under house arrest and that their condition had become "more critical". Mir Hossein Mousavi, Zahra Rahnavard, and Mehdi Karroubi, who protested the results of the 2009 presidential election, have been under house arrest since February 2011 without trial. Mehdi Karroubi, after three years of "detention" in a "safe house" of the Ministry of Intelligence, was transferred to his home in Jamaran in February 2014 but remains under house arrest. In a letter to the Iranian president published on April 10, he emphasized that he does not consider the lifting of the house arrest to be "within his power" and requested that Hassan Rouhani ask the "tyrannical regime" to put him on trial in an "open court".
