FBI Warning: Cyber Attacks by the Islamic Republic Against the U.S. Will Intensify if War Expands

The head of the FBI, Christopher Wray, stated during a congressional hearing that cyber attacks by the Islamic Republic against the United States are likely to escalate if the conflict between Israel and Hamas expands. In a session of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs focusing on threats to the United States, Wray noted that the number of attacks on U.S. military bases abroad by militia groups supported by the Islamic Republic of Iran has increased this month. He mentioned that Hamas's attack on Israel is inspiring the largest terrorist threats against the U.S. since the rise of ISIS about a decade ago. He also pointed out that since the onset of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza earlier this month, several foreign terrorist organizations have called for attacks against Americans and the West, significantly increasing the threat from extremists within the U.S. American officials state that since the start of the war in Gaza, the U.S. government has witnessed an increase in threats against Jews, Muslims, and Arab Americans. The White House has also expressed concern over incidents related to anti-Jewish sentiments at U.S. universities. In a ransomware-related session held by the White House, the U.S. Attorney General stated that he has instructed the Department of Justice to assist Israeli investigators in examining financial transfers to Hamas, including those related to cryptocurrencies.
