Female Attacker with Knife in Western Germany Leaves Six Injured

Local authorities in Germany report that a knife attack by a 32-year-old German woman on passengers of a bus in the city of Siegen in western Germany has left six people injured. The local police announced on Friday evening, September 9, that the woman attacked on a bus carrying 40 passengers en route to a city festival. According to police reports, the woman has been arrested, and the condition of three of the injured, aged between 16 and 30, is serious. The German police also stated that there is no evidence of a terrorist attack. According to the German media outlet Spiegel, the woman is suspected of having mental health issues and drug use. Witnesses reported that the attacker appeared to be severely confused and intoxicated at the time of the attack. This is the third knife attack in a public place in the North Rhine-Westphalia state of western Germany in the past week. A Syrian man, identified as the 'perpetrator' of a knife attack in Solingen, surrendered to the police. In the deadliest attack on September 2 at a street festival in Solingen, three people were killed and eight others were injured. Three days after this attack, Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany, promised during a visit to the site of the attack that his government would expel more refugees. Following this, on Friday, September 9, the German government officially announced the expulsion of 28 Afghan refugees with criminal records from the country. This is the first time since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan in the summer of 2021 that Berlin has moved to expel a number of refugees.
