Female Prisoners in Lakan Prison of Rasht Condemn Death Sentences

Female prisoners in the women's section of Lakan Prison in Rasht issued a message expressing their solidarity with other prisoners in Evin, Qazalhesar in Karaj, and Greater Tehran prisons, condemning the issuance of death sentences by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to a report received by Voice of America, these prisoners, while sending a message of solidarity, also supported the statement of 68 political and ideological prisoners condemning the death penalty. Among the women who signed this message are Sharifeh Mohammadi, Forough Samiinia, Azadeh Chavoshian, Tina Deljou, and Zahra Dadras. In their message, these political prisoners also strongly condemned the confirmation of death sentences for Mojahid Korkor, Pakhshan Azizi, Mehdi Hasani, and Behrouz Ehsani, expressing concern over the increase in the implementation of death sentences, especially for unknown prisoners. Accordingly, members of the 'No to Execution Tuesdays' campaign in the women's section of Lakan Prison emphasized the continuation of this campaign and called for widespread community support for the demand to halt executions. Earlier, on January 12, 68 political and ideological prisoners issued a statement condemning the confirmation of death sentences for Mehdi Hasani, Behrouz Ehsani, Pakhshan Azizi, and Mojahid Korkor, expressing concern over the increase in executions. News sources reported on January 9 that the Supreme Court of the Islamic Republic confirmed the death sentences of Pakhshan Azizi, Behrouz Ehsani Islamloo, and Mehdi Hasani, three political prisoners imprisoned in Evin Prison.
