Finland: The Expansion of Russia's Relations with China, Iran, and North Korea is a Serious Threat to Europe

Meanwhile, the European Union on Monday, December 11, imposed sanctions on six individuals and five entities related to what it termed "participation in the production and development of Iranian drones used in Russia's illegal war against Ukraine." The Islamic Republic has denied supporting Russia in the Ukraine war, despite evidence presented by Ukraine and assessments from Western intelligence agencies. According to this evidence, Russia has repeatedly used Iranian "Shahed-136" drones against Ukraine. The Islamic Republic has also fueled concerns regarding increased internet repression in Iran through an agreement with Russia on a draft cooperation in the field of information security. The two countries' agreement on information security, signed in 2020 in Moscow between then-Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the Russian government, was sent by Ebrahim Raisi's administration to the parliament for approval as a draft cooperation between the two governments in the field of information security. This draft, containing interpretable and ambiguous articles such as "main threats in the field of information security," "protection of information," and "main areas of bilateral cooperation," has sparked protests among social media users by formalizing the presence of Russian technology in controlling digital access. The Islamic Republic's cooperation with Russia in the field of information security, like the military cooperation between the two countries since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, has raised concerns among Western countries about the future of their collaboration.
