Fire in Building in Kuwait Leaves Dozens Dead

A fire in a building in southern Kuwait where workers lived has left at least 41 dead. According to the Kuwaiti police, the incident occurred early Wednesday, June 13, in the city of Al-Mangaf. A senior police official told the state television of the country, 'The building where this fire occurred was a residence for workers, and many of them lived there. Some of these individuals were rescued, but unfortunately, many lost their lives due to inhaling smoke from the fire.' He did not mention the identity of the contractor or the nationality of the workers but stated that they have always warned about the overcrowding of workers in residential buildings. Sheikh Fahd Youssef Saud Al-Sabah, the Deputy Prime Minister of Kuwait, accused the building owners of violating the law and 'greed,' stating that these factors led to the fire incident. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health announced that 43 people were hospitalized, with four of them dying due to the severity of their injuries. Kuwaiti officials say the fire has been contained, and investigations into its cause are ongoing.
