Five Arrested for Smuggling Several Iranian and Afghan Citizens in Romania

Romanian police say they have interrogated five men suspected of collaborating with a human trafficking network who were attempting to transfer five Afghan nationals and one Iranian from the Moldovan border through the shared border of Romania and Hungary to Hungary. According to the police, these suspects, who are citizens of Romania and Moldova and aged between 29 and 52, were arrested on Monday while they were transferring five Afghans and one Iranian from one vehicle to another in northeastern Romania. The detainees intended to take this group, which included three children, to the western border of Romania with Hungary. Hungary is a member of the Schengen countries, but Romania is not part of this group. Romanian police say the suspects are members of a human trafficking network that charges between 1,000 to 4,000 euros for each person they attempt to smuggle. Three of the suspects are in temporary detention, and investigations are ongoing for the other two. Police announced that the individuals being transferred by these detainees have been moved to a reception center for migrants and refugees in the city of Radauti, Romania.
