Five Israeli Citizens of Iranian Descent Acquitted of Espionage Charges for the Islamic Republic

The Jerusalem District Court in Israel acquitted two of the defendants in the espionage case for the Islamic Republic on Wednesday and convicted one woman of a lesser charge without proving the element of 'undermining Israel's national security.' Thus, the court acquitted all five Iranian-descended individuals who were accused of espionage. According to Jewish Press, this espionage case, which garnered widespread public attention in Israel, initially led to the arrest of five individuals, one of whom committed suicide. The analytical report from Jewish Press stated that the defendants in this case included one man and four Israeli women of Iranian descent who had been in contact for several years via Facebook with an Iranian agent who introduced himself as 'Rambod Namdar.' Additionally, Israel's internal security agency, Shin Bet, had previously announced that it had identified an 'intelligence officer' from the Islamic Republic who had contacted Israeli women on social media and sent them money for 'espionage.' Simultaneously, the court confirmed the 'patriotism' of these Israeli citizens during the proceedings and stated that the defendants were unaware of 'Rambod Namdar's' nature as an agent of the Islamic Republic and had no intention of harming 'Israel's security.' In this court case, the third defendant was found guilty after confessing to photographing sensitive locations due to contact with an enemy agent. Shin Bet arrested five Israeli Jews on suspicion of espionage for Iran.
