Floods in Sistan and Baluchestan Claim 3 Lives; Disrupt Communication Routes for 300 Villages

Heavy rainfall and renewed flooding in Sistan and Baluchestan province have resulted in at least 3 deaths, cut off communication routes for 300 villages in the southern part of the province, and caused two dams to overflow. According to ILNA news agency, the volume of the flood led to the overturning of a loader, resulting in the deaths of three employees of the Khash-Iran Shahr railway. Local officials in Sistan and Baluchestan have also reported the overflow of the 'Kheirabad' and 'Kahir' dams. Mojib Hasani, the governor of Nikshahr in southern Sistan and Baluchestan, stated that the 'Kheirabad' dam has overflowed, causing significant damage to infrastructure and residential units. Moein al-Din Saidi, the representative of Chabahar in the Islamic Consultative Assembly, reported the flooding of seasonal rivers and the overflow of the 'Kahir' dam in the areas of Konarak and Zarabad, stating that most villages in these two counties are underwater and residents are experiencing severe flooding. He criticized the lack of necessary infrastructure, including rural roads, technical structures, and agricultural dams in Sistan and Baluchestan. According to Eisa Ghazi, the director of agricultural jihad in Konarak, recent rains have caused over 5 trillion rials in damage to agricultural facilities, poultry farms, orchards, fields, dams, and water reservoirs. According to Mehr news agency, heavy rains have led to some schools in five southern provinces of the country conducting classes online. Sistan and Baluchestan was also affected by severe flooding last Esfand, with at least '16 counties and 1,947 villages' at risk of flooding. The Research Center of the Islamic Consultative Assembly has reported that about 28% of Iran's area, with a population of around 56 million, is at risk of severe flooding, with about 15 million of this population at high risk of flooding. A shipment of public aid for flood victims in Dashtiari County was confiscated by the Revolutionary Guards. Approximately 4,500 floods have occurred over the past 10 years; the Research Center of the Islamic Consultative Assembly: 56 million people are at risk of flooding. The consequences of flooding in Sistan and Baluchestan; a member of parliament stated that aid from Rasul Khadem and fuel carriers was greater than that from the government.
