Following the Columbia Space Shuttle Disaster, All Space Mission Programs Suspended

Following the crash of the Columbia space shuttle in the skies over Texas and the death of all its crew members, while NASA is busy investigating the causes of this incident, all space mission programs have been suspended. Ron Dittemore, the shuttle program manager, stated during a meeting with reporters in Houston that the first signs of problems were received just minutes before the shuttle's crash. He explained that several temperature sensors on the left wing of the shuttle failed, and subsequently, signs indicating an increase in internal temperatures were observed. At that time, the shuttle was traveling at 18 times the speed of sound. Under these conditions, the Columbia shuttle was enduring the heat of re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere. He mentioned that during the launch of the shuttle, a piece of thermal protection tile detached and struck the left wing, but Dittemore added that it is still unclear whether this event led to the shuttle's crash. He concluded by stating that the crew members were unaware of any issues with the shuttle. Meanwhile, NASA officials promised to provide necessary updates to the public as the investigation progresses.
