Following the Presentation of a New Resolution to the Board of Governors; Araqchi's Phone Conversation with Grossi

In response to the presentation of a new resolution by Western countries to the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Abbas Araqchi stated in a phone conversation with Rafael Grossi this morning that if the resolution is approved, the Islamic Republic will respond with a "proportional" reaction. Iranian news agencies described this conversation as an "exchange of views" regarding the "results of Grossi's trip to Tehran," but reported that the Iranian Foreign Minister called for avoiding "unconstructive and confrontational approaches." The Islamic Republic, continuing its diplomatic efforts, has warned European powers not to pursue their plans to present a resolution at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting condemning Tehran for non-cooperation with inspectors. It was previously reported that the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that in a phone conversation with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, Abbas Araqchi emphasized that this resolution could "complicate the situation" and contradict the "positive atmosphere that has been created between Iran and the Agency." Hours after this news was released, diplomatic sources told AFP that Western countries officially presented a new critical resolution against the Islamic Republic of Iran at the IAEA ahead of the agency's board meeting on Wednesday. The Iranian Foreign Ministry also announced that it summoned the British ambassador for reprimand due to the UK's decision to sanction the Iranian government for selling weapons to Russia. Araqchi claimed in a message on X that court documents showing the sale of British weapons to Israel reveal London's "double standards." Previously, Reuters reported that the Islamic Republic proposed not to increase its enriched uranium stocks to 60% on the condition that Western powers also refrain from approving a resolution against the Islamic Republic at the IAEA Board of Governors. The IAEA has indicated in one of its two confidential reports that the Islamic Republic has begun preliminary actions to implement this proposal. However, Western diplomats described this proposal as a "last-minute effort" to avoid condemnation, emphasizing that 60% enrichment has no civilian justification and that the Islamic Republic could easily resume this process. According to the report, a resolution presented by Britain, France, Germany, and the United States condemns the Islamic Republic for insufficient cooperation with the Agency and requests a comprehensive report on the Islamic Republic's nuclear activities. Reuters added that this resolution is likely to be approved, as only Russia and China traditionally oppose such resolutions. Reuters emphasized that the aim of this resolution is to increase pressure on the Islamic Republic to return to negotiations and accept new restrictions on its nuclear program. This resolution comes on the eve of the official end of the 2015 agreement and in the shadow of the Trump administration's hardline policies against the Islamic Republic.
