Formation of a 'New Case' for Atefeh Rangriz in the Revolutionary Court

Atefeh Rangriz, a women's rights activist and former political prisoner, announced that a new case has been opened against her in the Revolutionary Court of Damghan. On Saturday, July 2, she shared a story on Instagram revealing that she has been accused of 'forming a group with the intent to disrupt national security' and 'propagating against the regime and spreading falsehoods in cyberspace.' This civil activist described the charges as 'ridiculous,' stating that these accusations come at a time when she has been unable to lead a normal life due to 'psychological and physical stress' from her previous detention and imprisonment, 'let alone engage in any activities.' She also mentioned that the final ruling on her previous case has been issued by the Appeals Court of Semnan Province. Atefeh Rangriz was arrested by security forces just days before the anniversary of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini's death in custody of the morality police in September 2022 and was transferred to the Intelligence Department of Semnan. After 40 days in detention, suffering from a heart condition, she was temporarily released on bail. A month later, she was sentenced to a fine and supplementary punishment for 'propagating against the regime,' 'encouraging and inciting people to protest and clash,' and 'collaborating with opposition groups and media,' but her appeal against the ruling was rejected by the prosecutor. Rangriz has a history of previous arrests and imprisonment, having been sentenced to 11.5 years in prison for her participation in the Labor Day protests in 2019.
