Former FIFA Vice President: I Will Reveal Everything About Corruption in FIFA

Jack Warner, the former vice president of FIFA, announced on Wednesday, June 3, that his life may be in danger, stating, "I have details about Sepp Blatter that will come crashing down like an avalanche." Mr. Warner is one of 14 individuals being pursued by U.S. judicial authorities due to allegations related to FIFA's financial corruption. According to a report by AFP, in a message released in Trinidad and Tobago, he said, "I will keep no secrets anymore. Logic dictates that my life is also at risk, but even my death will not stop the avalanche that is coming." The report indicates that Mr. Warner, who was previously the Minister of National Security and faces the risk of extradition to the U.S., is a key source behind Sepp Blatter's sudden resignation from FIFA. Jack Warner stated, "I have prepared a collection of documents that show the connection between FIFA, the financial resources of this organization, myself, and how FIFA invested in the 2010 general elections in Trinidad and Tobago." Mr. Warner added that these documents contain his knowledge and findings about international money transfers in FIFA with Sepp Blatter's awareness and relate to the current Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago. Jack Warner, the former vice president of FIFA and president of CONCACAF (the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football), was suspended and dismissed from all his responsibilities by FIFA in 2011 due to various allegations of bribery and financial corruption. In 2010, during the elections in Trinidad and Tobago, Jack Warner supported Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who won the election and became the first female Prime Minister of the country. Shortly after, Jack Warner cut ties with the Prime Minister and left her party. Jack Warner has stated that he has legally challenged any extradition order to the U.S. in court. He added, "I have no desire to follow in the footsteps of those arrested and be deprived of my freedoms." INTERPOL, on June 3, at the request of the U.S., placed two former high-ranking FIFA officials and four managers related to bribery allegations in international football on its Red Notice list. These individuals include Jack Warner, the former president of the North, Central America, and Caribbean Football Union; Nicolás Leoz, the former president of the South American Football Confederation; three Argentine citizens accused of paying approximately $150 million in bribes to FIFA for media and advertising rights for football matches; and a director of a Brazilian television network whose companies have played a role in broadcasting football matches. The INTERPOL Red Notice means that these individuals can be arrested in any INTERPOL member country. Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA, announced on June 2 that he would resign following a widespread financial scandal in the global football federation. Mr. Blatter's resignation comes after he was re-elected for another four-year term on May 29, despite heavy media scrutiny and the arrest of seven senior FIFA officials. His election was made possible after his Jordanian rival, Ali bin Al-Hussein, withdrew from the race before the second round of voting on Friday, allowing Blatter, who received 133 votes in the first round, to remain FIFA president for the fifth consecutive time. The 79-year-old FIFA president stated on Tuesday that new elections would be held to determine his successor.
