Former South Korean President on the Brink of Arrest

Following the issuance of an arrest warrant for Yoon Suk-yeol, the ousted President of South Korea, officials from the country dispatched a team of inspectors to his residence in Seoul on Friday to execute the warrant. His lawyers have called the arrest warrant illegal, arguing that the Anti-Corruption Office lacks jurisdiction to address the charge of rebellion. Yoon's political fate now depends on the Constitutional Court's decision, which must determine whether to uphold his impeachment and officially remove him from the presidency or restore him to power. Yoon has defended his decision to declare martial law as a temporary measure to counter what he termed the 'obstructions of the Democratic Party.' However, this decision has exacerbated political and economic instability in South Korea, casting uncertainty over Yoon's political future. The South Korean court issued an arrest warrant for the suspended president, the parliament voted to impeach the interim president, the South Korean opposition presented an impeachment proposal against the interim president, and lawmakers impeached Yoon Suk-yeol for 'martial law.'
