Four Arrested Following Attack on Iranian Embassy in Finland

On Monday, September 10, the Finnish police reported the arrest of four individuals during a protest in front of the Iranian embassy in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. According to the news website 'Daily Finland', these individuals lowered the Iranian flag from the Islamic Republic's embassy in Helsinki and set it on fire. The report states that they also threw stones at police forces and a police helicopter that was filming the incident. The police arrested four of these individuals at the protest site, whose identities have not yet been disclosed. Three of them were arrested for setting fire to the Iranian flag, and the fourth for violent actions against the police. The police reported that there were 150 protesters present and added that no one was injured in the incident. According to the report, the police stated that the protesters exhibited violent behaviors during the demonstration and that more information would be released today. The Young Journalists Club noted that the Iranian embassy in Finland is located in a quiet residential area in eastern Helsinki. This is not the first time the Iranian embassy in a foreign country has been attacked. Recently, the Islamic Republic's embassy in Basra was attacked by protesters criticizing the cessation of water exports from Iran to Iraq, which led to the summoning of the Iraqi ambassador to the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Last year, a number of supporters of Ayatollah Sadiq Shirazi attacked the Iranian embassy in London, which ended with the arrest of several of them. The Iranian embassy in Berlin has also been attacked multiple times by angry protesters gathering outside the building. The Islamic Republic condemns these attacks each time, but within Iran, in addition to the occupation of the U.S. embassy in 1979, embassies and diplomatic sites of Britain, Saudi Arabia, and Denmark have also been attacked.
