Freddy Adu, 14-Year-Old Star of D.C. United, Scores First Professional Goal

On Saturday, during the continuation of the new season of professional soccer in America, the youngest professional player in the country scored his first goal... An eager crowd and rows of reporters were present at the MetroStars stadium in New Jersey, USA, to witness the performance of 14-year-old Freddy Adu, the new star of the D.C. United soccer team. Adu, born in Ghana, entered the game as a substitute in the 54th minute and scored his first professional goal in the 75th minute. Ben Olsen had scored another goal for D.C. United in the 26th minute, but the club ultimately lost 3-2 to the MetroStars. The home team scored all three of their goals in the second half, with Fabian Taylor scoring two goals and John Wolyniec adding another. Freddy Adu moved to Maryland, USA, at the age of 8 after his family won the U.S. immigration lottery. His exceptional talent in soccer was discovered by a local coach, and later major European soccer clubs attempted to sign him, but Freddy spent two years training with the U.S. youth national teams before finally joining D.C. United in Major League Soccer. Freddy Adu lives with his family in Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C.
