French Media: The Attacker in Nice was a Tunisian-French National

French media and international news agencies report, citing sources in the French police, that the perpetrator of the deadly truck attack on a crowd in Nice was a Tunisian-French national born in Tunisia, who was not on the police watch list. Reuters states that a police source indicated this 31-year-old attacker was not on the security forces' radar in France, but was known to the police due to crimes such as theft and violence. The French news agency also quoted local media stating that this man was likely a resident of Nice. The newspaper 'Nice-Matin' reported that the attacker, who was shot by police, had a gun and grenades in the truck. Meanwhile, the death toll from the attack in this French city has reached 84, with at least 18 others in critical condition. The attacker drove a truck into a crowd of people who had gathered to watch the national 'Bastille Day' celebrations. François Hollande stated in a television program early Friday that what happened in Nice was a terrorist attack and cannot be denied. Barack Obama, the President of the United States, also referred to the incident as a 'horrific attack' that appears 'terroristic,' condemning it 'strongly.' Currently, French anti-terrorism forces are investigating the deadly incident in Nice, and a crisis center has been established in the Ministry of the Interior. Witnesses reported that the truck driver attacked the crowd while they were watching fireworks for Bastille Day. The attacker accelerated as he approached the crowd, running people over. No group has claimed responsibility for the Nice attack yet. Previously, in deadly attacks in Paris last November, which were claimed by the self-proclaimed Islamic State, 130 people lost their lives. A year earlier, during an armed attack by extremists on the offices of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and a Jewish supermarket in Paris, 19 journalists, cartoonists, and other citizens were killed.
