Future of Gaza Discussed in Munich; Dialogue Among US, Arab, and European Foreign Ministers

During the Munich Security Conference, senior officials from the US, Arab countries, and Europe gathered on Friday to discuss a plan for the future of Gaza after the war. This plan is linked to the normalization of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia. Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Foreign Minister, and the foreign ministers of Jordan, Qatar, Germany, the UK, France, and Italy were among the officials present at this meeting. This was the first brainstorming session for Gaza after the war since the onset of the Israel-Hamas conflict on October 7. The goal of this meeting was to share ideas regarding Gaza post-war, the normalization of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia, broader integration of Israel into the region, security guarantees, and a pathway towards the establishment of a Palestinian state. Despite existing differences between Western and Arab countries regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict, the increasing number of civilian casualties emphasizes the need for a quick formulation of a plan for a potential long-term ceasefire. Joe Biden, the President of the United States, told reporters at the White House that he had held 'extensive discussions' with the Israeli Prime Minister in recent days and reiterated his position on the 'necessity of a temporary ceasefire' to ensure the freedom of hostages still held by Hamas. Biden stated, 'I still hope this happens and that the Israelis do not carry out any extensive ground attacks during this time. Therefore, my expectation is that this will not happen. A ceasefire must be established for the release of hostages.' The International Court of Justice rejected South Africa's request against Israel. Biden: 'My hope and expectation' is that an agreement on the release of hostages and a ceasefire will be reached. The US has once again placed Iranian-backed Houthis on the list of 'global terrorists.' The sixtieth Munich Security Conference emphasizes the need for the US to confront the Islamic Republic and its proxy groups. Israel Katz warned: If diplomatic efforts fail, we have no choice but to eliminate Hezbollah from the Lebanese border.
