G7 Statement Condemning IRGC Missile Attack on Israel and Warning of Uncontrollable Escalation of Conflicts

Leaders of the seven industrialized and democratic nations expressed their "deep concern over the deterioration of the situation in the Middle East" and condemned the Iranian government's direct military attack on Israel "in the strongest possible terms." The G7 leaders warned that the "dangerous cycle of attacks and retaliations" could lead to "uncontrollable escalation" of conflicts, which "is not in anyone's interest." They stated that they have communicated with each other to prevent further escalation of conflicts in the region. The statement also emphasized: "We once again call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the unconditional release of all hostages, a significant and sustained increase in humanitarian aid, and an end to the conflict." The Iranian Foreign Ministry, in response to the condemnation of its missile attack on Israel, accused the G7 of what it called "irresponsible bias." U.S. officials described the Iranian government's missile attack on Israel using approximately 200 ballistic missiles on Tuesday as irresponsible and stated that the attack failed. Israel has stated that it will respond to that attack. Satellite imagery showed damage to part of an airbase in Israel following the IRGC missile attack. "Washington, along with Israel, is examining how to respond to Tehran's attack." The U.S. called for a "unified stance" from the Security Council against the Iranian government's attack on Israel and is reviewing the potential impact of the Iranian missile attack on Israel on U.S. domestic security.
