G7: The Iranian Government Must Never Acquire Nuclear Weapons

On the last day of their meeting in Canada, the foreign ministers of the G7 issued a joint statement emphasizing that the Islamic Republic must never acquire nuclear weapons. According to the statement released on Friday, March 15, the Islamic Republic is the main source of regional instability and should never be allowed to develop or obtain nuclear weapons. The foreign ministers of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Japan, and Germany, along with the EU's foreign policy chief, also stressed that the Iranian government must change its overall policies, de-escalate tensions, and choose diplomacy. They further reminded of the threat posed by the Iranian government's increasing use of arbitrary detentions and attempts to assassinate its opponents. In another part of their statement, the G7 foreign ministers condemned military assistance provided by the governments of Iran, China, and North Korea to Russia and emphasized the need for third countries to counter such actions. They also reiterated their unwavering support for Ukraine's territorial integrity, right to life, freedom, sovereignty, and independence, praising ongoing efforts for a ceasefire, particularly the meeting between American and Ukrainian officials hosted by Saudi Arabia on March 11. The G7 foreign ministers called for the immediate release of all remaining hostages in Gaza and stated that Hamas should have no role in Gaza's future and must not pose any threat to Israel. Since the beginning of Donald Trump's presidency, the United States has revived its maximum pressure policy against the Islamic Republic to counter its nuclear and military activities and to end its support for terrorist groups in the Middle East. The United States and the Western world have repeatedly stated in recent years that they will never allow the Islamic Republic of Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. Recently, Trump, in a letter to Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, stated that Iran's nuclear activities must be resolved either through negotiation or militarily. Trump's views on the China and Russia meeting with the Islamic Republic, Israel's warning about the Islamic Republic's nuclear weapon program, Trump's offer of 'diplomacy' to the Iranian government, and warnings about military options, as well as sanctions against the Iranian oil minister and several companies and ships were also mentioned.
