Gantz: Israel Has the Opportunity for a 'Strategic Blow' Against the Islamic Republic

Benny Gantz, former Israeli Defense Minister, referred to attacks by Islamic Republic proxy groups, including the Houthis of Yemen, against Israel, stating that his country must 'target Iran directly.' Gantz, leader of the 'National Unity' party in Israel, emphasized that 'the solution to ending these attacks lies in Tehran.' Gantz mentioned that Israel currently has the opportunity to accelerate a 'strategic blow' against the Islamic Republic and its proxies, calling failure to seize this opportunity a 'strategic mistake' for Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also recently warned that Israel will act against the Houthis of Yemen with the same intensity as it has against other 'terrorist arms' of the Iranian regime in the region. In a video statement, Netanyahu said, 'Just as we have acted with intensity against the terrorist arms of the evil [Iranian] regime, we will act against the Houthis with power, decisiveness, and precision.' According to the Times of Israel, these statements indicate a potential beginning of a broader campaign against Iranian regime proxy groups. This warning came after a ballistic missile fired by the Houthis struck a children's playground in Tel Aviv on the first day of Dey. Following this, Channel 12 reported that senior defense officials in Israel believe that instead of attacking the Iranian proxy group in Yemen, 'direct action' against the Islamic Republic should take priority. The report stated that a significant portion of the senior command of the Israeli Defense Forces believes that Israel should 'attack within Iranian territory.' This comes as Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, has claimed that the Islamic Republic does not have proxy forces. According to Channel 12, the issue of confronting the Islamic Republic with the aim of deterring the Houthis has been repeatedly raised in Israeli security cabinet meetings. Meanwhile, Israel has recently focused on strategies to counter the increasing missile attacks from Tehran-backed Houthis. The report also claimed that Israel assesses that the Houthis have decided to escalate missile and other attacks, and their actions are not always coordinated with or approved by the Iranian government. Channel 12 reported that the Iranian government is concerned about a potential Israeli attack for reasons that its air defense has been destroyed by Israel, allowing easier access for the Israeli Air Force, and also due to the acceptance of a ceasefire in Lebanon, which has freed up military resources, and Donald Trump's election in the U.S. The media also stated that in discussions among Israeli leadership, it was expressed that Israel must do everything possible to prevent the Islamic Republic from returning to Syria or Lebanon. However, anonymous sources have warned that Israel should currently avoid long-term confrontation with Tehran, as this would not be beneficial for Israel, although it should continue to enhance and advance its operational capabilities against the Islamic Republic. The report from Channel 12 indicates the willingness of Israeli officials to directly attack the Islamic Republic. The Houthis' missile strike on a park in southern Tel Aviv left 16 injured. Netanyahu stated: 'We will treat the Houthis like other terrorist arms of the Iranian regime.' Israel claims that the Iranian government supports and directs the terrorist activities of the Houthis.
